Coal is transported more than 6 miles to a power plant from an adjacent Bridger Coal mining facility at Point-of-Rocks, Wyo., via 42-inch-wide Goodyear Flexsteel conveyor belts protected by Goodyear's Sensor Guard 2000 rip detection system. Conveyor supervisor Mike Castleberry checks operations data as the belt moves 30,000 tons of coal daily. Sensor Guard 2000 recently prevented extensive damage to a 15,000-foot Bridger Coal belt by sensing a tear and stopping the conveyor system when a jagged metal post became lodged in the belt and only sliced 117 feet of it.
